ITSM Mentoring

A Question on IT Financial Management

Two years ago the CEO of Unified Oil called all of the managers together for an offsite strategy session. You were invited to talk about the ITIL initiative that was to be one of the five strategic goals that will reshape Unified Oil. You have visited Unified Oil a few times since and noted the progress in a few areas and also noticed how slowly other areas were progressing.

Today you checked your email and noticed a memo from the CFO at Unified Oil. You were surprised at the content. The CFO realized two years ago that your presentation was vital to the future of Unified Oil. The IT expenditures were unpredictable and hotly debated. Following your presentation he read the ITIL books and purchased several others on IT financial management. After two years he believes his organization is now a model of ITIL Financial Management for IT.

In this email the CFO is asking for a proposal from you. He would like you to visit Unified Oil and do an assessment on the success of his Financial Management for IT implementation. This proposal needs to describe:

  2. The features of Financial Management for IT that you expect to find in a successful implementation (8 points).
  3. The types of linkages you expect to find between Financial Management for IT and two other ITIL disciplines. (8 points).
