Project Management International, Project Management Professional Certification Handbook

  • Category 1: Baccalaureate degree, 4,500 hours of experience, spanning 36 months on all 5 Process Groups within 6 years. Also 35 contact hours.
  • Category 2: High school equivalent, 7,500 hours of experience, spanning 60 months on all 5 Process Groups within 8 years. Also 35 contact hours.
  • It is very important that your name on the application match your name on your identification.
  • Bring two forms of identification to the test center. Both must have signatures, both must match your name and one must include a photograph.
  • A percentage of all applications are audited.
  • Upon completion of processing of the application PMI will send a letter stating you are eligible to schedule the test. This letter of eligibility is good for 6 months, and can be renewed once for an additional 6 months.
  • Cancellation of a scheduled test must be made by 12:00noon Eastern USA time 2-business days prior to the appointment.
  • 200 multiple choice questions in a 4-hour test session.
  • You may not take anything into the test room except a 4-function calculator. Either leave ALL possessions in your car or lock them in a locker in the test center. (Empty your pockets, take off your watch, etc.)
  • The test score appears momentarily after you "submit" your answers for evaluation.

  • Know the name of this document.
  • Key points:
    • I.A.2. "Upon a reasonable and clear factual basis, responsibility to report possible violations of the PMP Code of Professional Conduct by individuals in the field of project management."
    • I.A.4. "Responsibility to disclose to clients, customers, owners or contractors, significant circumstances that could be construed as a conflict of interest or an appearance of impropriety."
    • I.C.1. "Responsibility to recognize and respect intellectual property developed or owned by others, and to otherwise act in an accurate, truthful and complete manner, including all activities related to professional work and research."
    • II.A.2. "Responsibility to maintain and satisfy the scope and objectives of professional services, unless otherwise directed by the customer."
    • II.B.2. "Responsibility to refrain from offering or accepting inappropriate payments, gifts or other forms of compensation for personal gain, unless in conformity with applicable laws or customs of the country where project management services are being provided."

Project Management International, Continuing Certification Requirements Handbook

  • 3 year cycle. The first cycle starts on the day you pass your examination and ends on 31 December of the third year after your examination. Subsequent cycles are 1 January to 31 December in 3-year increments.
  • Need 60 PDUs (Professional Development Units) in each 3-year cycle.
  • Report PDUs when earned via the on-line submission form.
